RWI and Lindahl enter strategic partnership to strengthen the rule of law and human rights in practice

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) and Advokatfirman Lindahl, one of Sweden’s leading and largest business law firms, have formalised a strategic partnership to strengthen the implementation of human rights and rule-of-law frameworks in complex operating environments.

Building on a successful prior collaboration, the new agreement marks a more focused and strategic phase of the partnership, with increased ambition in impact, knowledge exchange, and long-term engagement. Through the partnership, Lindahl will provide financial support and pro bono legal expertise.

The collaboration builds on several years of active engagement between RWI and Lindahl. Associates and partners at Lindahl have contributed to and participated in RWI’s work through various seminars and initiatives, including support to the preservation of the RWI Human Rights Library and the ongoing provision of a pro bono whistleblower function, contributing to strengthened accountability and responsible operations at RWI.

The next phase of the collaboration will support RWI’s global work, with a strong focus on Ukraine, including support to legal alignment with EU and international standards and the strengthening of institutional capacity during the country’s EU accession process.

The partnership brings together RWI’s research and field-based experience with Lindahl’s legal expertise through seminars, exchanges, and joint publications, supporting the application of human rights standards in practice across legal, business, and public-sector contexts.

“Supporting Ukraine means strengthening the systems that carry human rights forward in practice,” says Peter Lundberg, Executive Director of RWI. “EU accession is not only a legal process, but a question of capacity, integrity, and trust in public institutions. Partnerships like this, where legal expertise is closely integrated with our programmes, are essential to ensuring that these systems develop in a coherent and lasting way.”

“Legal expertise plays an increasingly central role in building resilient, sustainable and accountable institutions,” says Anna Engqvist. “This partnership builds on a strong internal engagement at Lindahl and gives us the opportunity to apply our expertise where governance, compliance, and accountability need to function in practice.”

By combining academic knowledge with operational experience and legal expertise, the partnership focuses on strengthening how legal and governance systems work in practice, contributing to more resilient, rules-based approaches to governance, business, and international development.
