Viktor Wihlstrand: From Intern to Partner
Is it possible to work as a soldier and elite football player while climbing the career ladder as a newly graduated lawyer? Meet Viktor Wihlstrand, who today is a proud partner at Lindahl.
Viktor works at Lindahl's office in Helsingborg alongside 25 of his more than 300 colleagues at Lindahl. As a partner at Lindahl, he has the opportunity to actively contribute to the development of both the office and the entire firm.
He first entered through Lindahl's doors as a student and then became a summer clerk in 2016.
"After my summer clerkship, I stayed on. The simple reason for this is that I really enjoy it here. I was immediately well taken care of and became part of the team. There is a pleasant and fun atmosphere and a stimulating work environment."
Viktor had the opportunity to learn from several lawyers and find the right area of expertise through them.
"You develop all the time as long as you are eager. I got to try different areas and could identify what I liked the most. Initially, I did the basic work, then took on more and more responsibility and made sure early on to have client contact. Eventually, I started to take charge of larger projects where I had to make decisions and take a stand on complex issues."
Viktor had the opportunity to specialize in private company acquisitions and compulsory redemption of minority shares.
"My advice to young lawyers is to try to identify and specialize in a slightly narrower area alongside their broader expertise, preferably an area with as high demand as possible to maximize business generation and make oneself indispensable. In my case, it became compulsory redemption of minority shares, and I am grateful that I was trained by a master in the field here at Lindahl. Nowadays, this master is no longer with the firm, which means I represent that expertise here in Helsingborg."
Crawling in the mud and working in the office
During his time as a student and new at Lindahl, Viktor also served as a soldier. This meant he was occasionally serving for 2-3 weeks at a time.
"Many have the preconception that as a lawyer, you work your dog years without any pause. But at Lindahl, they have given me the opportunity to perform my service during this time. It was a nice contrast, crawling in mud one day and working in the office the next."
Additionally, Viktor had a parallel career as an elite football player until 2022.
"I have been given great freedom in how I organize my work. Lindahl has always supported me and seen the opportunities and benefits of football. Clients find it fun, and it has given us an even broader network. I have become a public figure and built my network, which has generated business for us as a firm."
Over time, Viktor has built up his business, brought in new cases, and gained more and more clients.
"I like building relationships and am driven by the human and social aspects of the work, while some lawyers are happiest at their desks. Both profiles are equally needed," says Viktor.
Partner driving the firm forward
Today, Viktor has put his military service and elite football playing on hold. Now he is a new father and partner.
"I look forward to continuing to develop Lindahl in general and the Helsingborg office in particular. I want to be one of the people who sets a strategy, shows the way, and pulls the train forward."
